This publisher is currently accepting manuscript submissions from Christian authors who have a goal to spread spirituality and inspiration to the world. Their Christian publishing webpage offers Christians the benefit of excellent publishing guidance, suggestions and statements of faith to encourage authors in their journey as writers and future published authors.

“What is a Christian book? Books that support our statement of beliefs will be considered ‘Christian’ works for the purposes of publication. Writings that are religious or spiritual in nature but do not support the statement of beliefs will be referred to other divisions of the AEG Publishing Group. Determination of a writing as ‘Christian’ is to be solely determined by the publisher,” reports their webpage. Strategic Book Marketing has a mission to help new writers, especially Christian writers with a strong passion for the Gospel.

The great thing about Strategic Book Marketing is the fact that their Christian publishing division is led by devoted and passionate Christians. This helps provide leadership qualities to the division, as well as experience in writing and publishing, Christian authors have a strong advocate at Strategic Book Marketing that can direct and guide them through the publishing process.

The way the process works is simple. Christian authors are encouraged to fill out a form and provide information about themselves, their work and their goals. From there, the publisher will determine if the book is a good fit and whether or not they will publish it. The great thing about Strategic Book Marketing is the fact that they offer one-on-one, personalized attention. You’re not just a number with them; you’re a human being – an author with a message to share with the world.

It’s always a good idea to read testimonies of other writers and their experiences with Strategic Book Marketing. The author’s edge page provides a glimpse into the positive experiences of authors and the successes they’ve encountered with their newly published books.

DO YOU HAVE VICTORY OVER EVIL?

"The Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8

Many people do not believe in the devil, an evil one or anything of that magnitude, yet we're told over and over in Scripture of such a power. The good news is that Jesus lived and died to destroy the work of the devil in our lives. This doesn't mean we may not go through hard times and be tempted by evil, but it does mean that the battle is won in Christ. He secured our salvation against the evil one through living a perfect life. Satan no longer has power over those who live by faith.

The works of the devil include bondage to sin, fear, and all things evil. The power over these works in our lives is destroyed by Christ's life, death, and resurrection.

When you consider your own life, the question then becomes, am I appropriating faith into all avenues of my life? Am I aware of the complete power I can have as a follower of God? Am I still in bondage to sin, fear, death and evil?

In examining our lives, we can see whether or not we have claimed by faith the victory and overcoming blood of Christ into all areas of our lives. There is no time like the present to accept the power and victory that is ours by faith.

Don't Fear the Enemy

"No weapon formed against thee shall prosper." Isaiah 54:17

God is comforting His people with this verse. You see, many a believer has had to deal with the weapons of enemies, and usually, they are of the emotional and spiritual kind, not of the physical.

It is a nice promise to know that God will not let the weapons of gossip, slander and evil surmise to prosper against us. He will not allow His people to be destroyed by the wicked words and gestures of those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake.

Our focus needs to be on God, His Word, and His will for our lives. We need not tell others what to do or how to do it...often, all we need to do is pray for those around us, including those who spiritually and emotionally try to form weapons against us.

The verses in Isaiah 54:17-20 say "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me, Says the LORD."

I like the fact that it makes it clear that our righteousness is not our own. It is from God and God alone. He is the one that condemns false judgment and any weapon formed against us, and He is the one who gives us righteousness. Remember, if you are faithful to God, no weapons formed against you will prevail or prosper. Stay true to God no matter what anyone says or does.

WHO DO YOU TURN TO AND WHO FULFILLS YOU???

"Women, in general, will find it difficult to turn from a man and stop demanding that he meets their needs, provides security, and protects their identity, and return to me. Men, in general, find it very hard to turn from the works of their hands, their own quests for power and security and significance and return to me...women turned from us to another relationship, while men turned to themselves and the ground." The Shack.

This significant passage from the book The Shack delves deeply into the condition of men and women and how we fill that empty place with anything but God. We, women, if involved in a relationship long for the man to fill and complete us. If we're not in a relationship, we usually find social means and networks to turn to, or like a man, turn to ourselves and our work, rather than turning to God.

What does it mean to turn to God? Again, it's all about relationship. It's about letting go of power and our need for control over others and over our own situations.

"Have you noticed that even though you call me Lord and King, I have never really acted in that capacity with you? I've never taken control of your choices or forced you to do anything, even when what you were about to do was destructive or hurtful to yourself and others...To force my will on you," Jesus explained, "is exactly what love does not do. Genuine relationships are marked by submission even when your choices are not helpful or healthy." Continued from The Shack.

God seeks to fill our lives with relational love for one another. In such relationships, there is no power and control over those around us. True love allows for freedom of choice to always be present. Love is an inner circle of respect and care for the other's needs.

"My life was not meant to be an example to copy. Being my follower is not trying to 'be like Jesus,' it means for your independence to be killed. I came to give you life, real life, my life. We will come and live our life inside of you, so that you begin to see with our eyes and hear with our ears, and touch with our hands, and think like we do. But, we will never force that union on you..." Jesus, The Shack.

Let Christ in you be the ONLY hope of glory...all other means are substitutes; none of which work, nor satisfy.

ARE YOU A LAW ABIDING PERSON?

"Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all." James 2:10

The law of God, also known as the 10 Commandments or Moral Law, is a very exact "do's and don'ts" list. For the believer, it is the mirror one compares him or herself to. It either shows you are aligned with God's "letter of the law" rules or you're not. The fact is, none of us are. We are not without sin and therefore, all of us have broken the rules.

This is why Christ had to die for us. He was our substitute for sin...the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Only Christ met the conditions of the law. He was perfect and kept the law perfectly. He was not only our substitute, but our example. Christ as God on earth was love magnified, and love is the fulfillment of the law. This is the key to the law - love.

Love leads to grace. Though God has a standard, He loves us and sent His only Son to die on our behalf...before He died, He also lived. In that life, love was magnified. Christ was perfect and taught us not only the letter of the law, but the spirit of the law. As we invite Him into our hearts, He becomes the law abider in us. "Christ in you, the hope of glory."

Not only does God long to fulfill His will and His law in you, He longs to show you that perfect obedience is found in love - love for God and love for others. As you love God, you obey Him and as you obey and love Him, you can't help but share love with others. Love, my friends, is the fulfillment of the law.

The Power of Love

If there is one force in the world that can change a person, it's love. Mushy love. Devoted love. True love. Redeeming love...no matter the type of love, it has power.

God has the ultimate kind of love to give the human race. It's the type of love that flows down and into the very dark places of our souls that need healing. These are areas closed off to most people. These broken places are what God longs to heal in us. If the person you love most has brought you much happiness, what God can do is bring you ultimate joy of soul that lasts. Even when you're apart from the one you love, God's love is always there with you and so is His presence.

Through the Holy Spirit, man is cared for in ways that no one fully understands. This powerful energy source tends to our greatest needs, bringing comfort when we need it most. Truth when we hunger for it. Conviction when we're in a place of decision.

God's love comes to us in ways we don't always realize. He is there when we are alone and in need. He is there when everyone is gone or we have been abandoned. He is there when we are hurting and broken. God longs to love us and bring us into a healing relationship that transforms the human heart.

God's love is all around us in nature...in the quiet, remarkable sunset; in the amazing peaceful river flowing by...in the picturesque snow fall that takes us by surprise...in the beauty and calmness of a sleeping pet. God's love flows to us from everywhere. He longs for our joy and happiness...He longs to give us salvation and bring us into a relationship of trust with Him.

Everything that is good, pure, holy, true and redeeming comes from God. Everything that brings rest of spirit and life to the soul comes from God. He is simply waiting for you to see all that He has done for you...like a lover, He has done all He can to show you how much He cares and loves you. He longs for you today...simply open the door of your heart and let him in.

A Walk of Faith

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

Faith is one of the most powerful substances in the world. It's what creates change in one's life. Faith, even outside of a belief in God, can help a person achieve much. Faith in God, however, is the greatest power in the world.

As you lay hold on the author of your faith - God Himself, you join with Him in recreating your heart, mind and soul. Faith is the saving element. Through the grace and mercy of God, your faith can save you. More than just in salvation, faith can lead to a changed life. Old habits and patterns are broken. New life and hope are injected into your psyche. You begin to live in possibilities, not limitations.

When people begin to see the possibilities of life, their faith and hope grows. Faith is a substance, an energy, a life force -- a seed to greatness in achieving anything one puts her "faith" into.

All of us have a degree of faith...each person has hope...alone a person can achieve a lot, but in cooperation with God, a supernatural creative being, that person can achieve all things. "All things are possible with God." Not some, but all! Do you believe it??

Faith is a supernatural-like motivation that each person has been given. The Bible says all of us were born with it. Unfortunately, many give it up, thanks to their own doubts and so-called "rational thinking." If only they had taken that seed of faith and planted it! If only they had watered it with inspiration, meditation and prayer! It's not too late. It's never too late! You still have that seed of faith in you that God planted at your birth. Take it today and build on it. It is a SUBSTANCE, to be directed towards your salvation first and foremost and to the benefit your life and the lives of others throughout the course of your time on earth.

INDEPENDENCE FROM GOD

Because we were created in God's image, we have a natural tendency to want to be gods. Our need for independent lives cause us to break away from God, thinking we can do just fine without Him. This sort of independence isn't healthy spiritually or emotionally. In fact, it often times leads to arrogance.

God longs for us to know Him. Just like we long to be known by those we love and care for, God is the same in this. His desire is to be in full relationship with us. He wants emotional intimacy, and love in return, not for us to do things out of obligation and fear. We, as humans, don't like it when those we love only do things for us out of obligation. We want close, intimate relationships, and so does God.

Every time you take a step into so-called independence, ask yourself if that step is leading you closer to God or further away. Do you try to figure out all your problems without prayer? Do you stress and fear over your life and situation? Do you trust God?

The last question is the key to not living an arrogant, rebellious independent life away from God - TRUST. If we could only learn to trust God, our fears would be calmed. We would be more patient about things, and less stressed out each time things didn't go as planned. We would know there is a bigger picture to consider and that GOD IS STILL there, in charge, working it all out for our good. The biggest test in trusting God is yielding our judgment of Him when things don't go like we want. To simply say, "I trust God even if I don't understand" is one of the strongest acts of faith.

Imagine stripping your mind of all biases of God and starting and ending with the statement GOD IS LOVE and believing that fully. I believe if every time things went wrong in our lives we still trusted God and still remembered Him as a God of love, our lives would be revolutionized, as would those around us.

Get to know the TRUE God and you will begin to trust Him.

Learning to Hang On

“Therefore, having so vast a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance the race set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

As human beings our road sometimes gets very difficult. Some have it worse than others, yet somehow they manage to always be grateful. Gratitude is one of the sweetest gifts a person can possess. Without it self-pity takes full control.

Our life on earth is compared to a race in the Bible. The call is to endure unto the end, yet many people start out strong in a race and then give up. They get hurt and quit. They get weary and lose their desire to continue. Life is truly the same way.

In life, sometimes we find things that hinder our walk with God. These things, the Bible says, “entangle us” making it difficult to endure in the run of life.

We really need to encourage one another to endure unto the end. What is the end? Obviously death marks the end of THIS life. All of us, in a sense, are on probation. We're given only one life to live, and one chance, according to Scripture. It says we only die once and then the judgment.
How is your race going? Are you prone to gratitude or self-pity? Your answer will determine whether or not you will endure to the end with grace or despair.

Our Great Need draws us to God

We're told in Scripture that in the last days there would be a strong blindness among many causing them to think they have need of nothing. "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked." Revelation 3:17

The heart of God is touched by our acknowledgement of our great need. Our claim to His mercy is not our own worthiness, but our desperate need for a savior. Still, some feel they are "good" people, never do anything bad, and as a result remain in a state of self-righteousness. Yet, others, mock the thought of humanity needing to be saved from sin. Their pride is wretchedness before God. They are spiritually bankrupt and don't know it, nor care to.

Somewhere in between we may find ourselves. We may feel we are spiritual and good on our own. We believe in God but there's no need for more than that. We believe and that's good enough. The devils also believe, we're told, but it does nothing for them. "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble!" —James 2:19

Belief without understanding of our need for God leaves us in a state of self-righteousness.

"The devil and his demons tremble before the Lord, because they know His power. They know His authority. But do they believe in the sense that James is describing? Do they trust in Him? Do they cling to Him? No, they do not.

So you see, you can know the right things about God and not necessarily believe, in the biblical sense, in God. True belief in Jesus Christ is the quality of faith that will bring you to Him to commit yourself to Him, to rest completely on Him, and to trust Him fully, which will result in a radical change in your attitudes and lifestyle." (Harvest Daily)

God calls us to Him. He pleads for us to come boldly to the throne of grace and confess our sins. We're told He is just and faithful to forgive our sins and give us the strength to overcome. Will we be like the devils and just believe and tremble, or will we be children of God and come to Him fully? This is the choice all of us must face.

Returning to our First Love

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Revelation 2:4

There are times when our religious experience gets old. This happens when we get caught up in forms and rituals without a real connection or experience with God. People try all kinds of things to get "religious," but sometimes lose sight of true spirituality.

True spirituality begins by feeding the spirit and soul. Although each person's walk is different, everyone has a need in these areas, though they may not recognize it. You can mask the need, ignore it for a while, but eventually a starving may actually occur.

As the spirit within signals the mind that it needs a higher connection, the person will feel:

A need to pray
A desire for something more in life
A strong sense of wanting to connect with a higher purpose
These feelings usually result in asking questions, going on spiritual quests, reading and studying spiritual material and so forth. When someone comes to Christ, the excitement and joy are obvious. Sadly, many, years later, lose their “first love” experience. But God is calling us back to that experience.

It’s important for churches to feed the soul of followers and seekers. By presenting doctrine, rituals and forms without a relationship to God, people go away hungry. The performance religions of the day will never fill the spirit and soul of hungry followers.

We must each feed our souls with the Word of God, prayer, and fellowship with other believers, outreach ministries and spending time listening to the still small voice within. God wants us to be refreshed and renewed daily. He wants to give us that “first love” experience on a consistent basis through various means of grace. Ask God to draw near to you if you’ve left your first love.

WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU, TRUTH OR TRADITION?

Sincere people seek for truth, no matter if it takes them to a road less traveled. Many Christians today follow the wide road of traditional belief, rather than truly seeking the Word of God for what the Bible teaches. They listen to their pastors, rather than to God. They follow blindly and as a result, sit in the pew and wait to be fed.

In the Bible, there was a group known as the Bereans. They were people of the Word. They read the Scriptures to test what was being taught to them by the disciples and those around them. The Bible puts it this way:

"As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men." (Acts 17:10-12)

How many Christians today join a church because they have good music, all their friends go there or it was the church their parents took them to?

Did you know that the truths of the Bible that have to do with salvation and the law of God have been preserved? People like to talk about all the various versions of the Bible, but the main points of truth are there and always have been. What's interesting, however, is that the traditions of man have tried to take the place of the truth of God. The Bible says, "They shall think to change the times and the laws." (Daniel 7:25) What times? What laws?

One tradition found among most of the Protestant world today comes directly from the traditions of Catholicism. There is no where in the Bible where God instructed His people to worship Him on this day. I am referring to Sunday worship. Jesus resurrected on Sunday, but the tradition of Sunday worship came through Constantine when he ordered the Christians to break away from the Jews. He wanted them to worship on the Pagan day of the Sun, Sunday. Suddenly, the people of God were challenged to break one of the 10 Commandments, the 4th that tells God's people to remember the Sabbath, "8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." (Ex. 20:8)

Even the Catholic Church challenges Protestants to give them Biblical proof for keeping Sunday like they do. You can read it here: http://www.romeschallenge.com/ The fact is, Protestants today are following TRADITION not TRUTH when it comes to this. Oh but it doesn't matter, they say, "We are saved by grace not the law." They quote many scriptures to support their law breaking, but I wonder how God sees it? If it doesn't matter, then why not just worship God on HIS original day? If it's not a big deal, then just obey God and not tradition. Hebrews 4 makes it clear that the original seventh-day Sabbath remains the true day of rest.

I am an ex-Catholic and most of my family is Catholic. Most of my friends are Sunday-keepers. I don't judge them. I only share what I've learned through the Bible. There is truth and there is tradition. You either follow one or the other and the Catholic Church says Sunday is a MARK of their authority. Did you know that the Bible calls the Sabbath A SEAL? (Ezekial 20:12) Which do you want? The MARK of tradition or the SEAL of truth? Pray to God about this and see where He leads you.

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." John 16:13

WHAT MAKES CHRISTIANITY SO DIFFERENT?

It is one of the most criticized religions in the world, but it has millions of faithful followers in its rank. Why? Certainly not because it's a dead religion, but rather because it is alive with the power of the Word of God and Christ living in the heart. It is alive because Christ resurrected from the grave and hundreds witnessed His ascension to Heaven with those He took with Him out of the grave! Christianity leads to life - eternal life!

What makes Christianity different than all religions is that it's not about appeasing the gods with good works to receive reward, but because of Christ's work on our behalf in bringing us into right relationship with God.

While most religions are about fixing the unfixable human nature of man, Christianity is about focusing outside the "self" and into the Person of Christ. Christ is risen. He is the only one who faced death and rose again. He is the only one who took the place of sin for us. Christ is our righteousness.

The good news is that God invites everyone to his banquet. All you have to do to attend the King's banquet is to put on the robes He offers you. Leave your own at the door. This is not about how good you can be, but about how good Christ is. The robe He wants to clothe you in is His righteousness, not yours.

As you begin to see God's love for you, it changes you. Your human nature may still have struggles, but the direction of your life changes. Perfection is a change of direction into the will of God.

You cannot earn your way to Heaven. It is a free gift offered by King Jesus to anyone and everyone who will believe. By faith, accept the good news, put on Christ and enter into the Kingdom of God on earth...soon the eternal Kingdom will be given, but you can have peace, joy, love and freedom NOW...

What makes Christianity so different? It is based on a Person, the Person of Christ. It is based on a relationship, one of love, not fear. It is based on receiving the FREE gift of salvation by faith.

Christianity is not about worshipping the dead. It is about a vibrant, presence-filled life with Christ at the center. Christianity is not about killing infidels, but loving them and sharing the good news with them. Christianity is not about proving to atheists we're right, but about living the "right" within our hearts and letting God take care of the rest.

This my friends is what makes Christianity so different. It is a life changing experience with forever consequences.

May you all be blessed this resurrection weekend!

Need Answers?

How to Get Answers to Your Prayers
Learning how to pray can change your life forever. Isa. 59:19

There are times when all we see around us is darkness in the form of "enlightenment." As you listen to these so-called "enlightened ones" you quickly see and hear a discrepancy in what they're teaching.

So many hate the thought of a real God or the God of the Bible that they have formulated intellectual idols and gods of lies. For many, the true God is forgotten. They have turned their back on Him and His Word. Just like the Jews of old, many have lusted after other gods and in the process have left the God of their fathers for a more politically/intellectually correct god.

In Noah's time the same thing happened. The world hated God and the concepts of accountability and responsibility. They did not believe in sin. They mocked Noah. The same thing was true in Lot's day. Lot was told to get out of the city of Sodom & Gomorrah for it would be destroyed. Angels had to come down and lead him out. Those with unnatural, perverted affections wanted to have sex with these messengers of God. It was a time of darkness.

Our world today no longer acknowledges the God of the Bible. Yes, fortunately, there are true lightbearers (not the new age kind that spread lies through so-called channelings) who continue to share truth throughout the world, obeying Christ's command to "go onto all the world" teaching the gospel of Christ and their need for a Savior.

We are told that in the last days there would be a "falling away." In fact, in the book of Matthew, we're told it would be like the days of Noah. Instead of looking to God, many are looking to human leaders and presidents to save them from the mess we're in today. But the Bible is clear that what we will see is "everyone doing what is right in their own eyes," and in so doing, turning their back on God.

But don't despair, believers, "when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him." Stay true to the faith, even when everyone around you is turning to idolatry.

My holiness is not a condition of life but a Person. My redemption is not a hope but Christ in me, the hope of glory. Yes, Christ in me, and Christ in you-this is all we need." Watchman Nee

The good news is truly good. Instead of accepting the Person of Christ, many people try to grit their teeth and become righteous. They work very hard to stop a bad habit. They sincerely seek goodness, but don't realize their good deeds are as filthy rags and often keep them from the very author of good - God Himself.

Are you out for perfection? There is only one way to it.

In Christ, our salvation is not only sure, but the Bible tells us He is the finisher of our faith. The Person of Christ is a living power of change. If you've fallen short and wonder how you can overcome, the key is not working harder, but letting go and receiving the promise, the Person of Christ. Don't work to be righteous, simply put on the robes of righteousness by putting on Christ.

"The daily life of the Christian is summed up in the word 'receive'. Every challenging thing that God demands of me long-suffering, meekness, humility, goodness, holiness, joy is not something I am, or something I do, or some virtue I acquire or attain to. It is Christ in me. Each is the manifestation of Him. Let Him be revealed, naturally and spontaneously, and that is enough." Nee

As Christ flows through you through this letting go and receiving process, you are empowered. It is about you stepping out of the way and letting Christ in you do God's will. Truly, everything from faith, longsuffering, and obedience itself are the natural flow of the life filled with Jesus Christ. Every demand, standard and command of God is met through Christ in you, the hope of glory. Ask Him into your life right now and watch how He can live in you, and fulfill every demand of God.

DO YOU FEEL CONDEMNED?

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

The feeling of condemnation is one that leads to separation from God and others. Condemnation is a sense of dread and guilt that causes a person to rebel and turn away from what is right and true. The rebel mentality goes like this. "Since I can't be as good as so and so, nor can I measure up, I will just be bad and be the best at being bad." Most people don't think it through like this, but they seem to act out that way.

"Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft," we're told in Scripture. Why does it compare it to such? Because it is willful and stubborn. This section of Scripture was specifically referring to King Saul. God had given him strict instructions on going into a certain land and destroying everything and everyone. Though this may not make any sense of to us, consider the fact that God knew that these people were evil through and through and would continue in their evil ways. Saul, instead of following God's complete orders, kept some of the flock and brought them back to his land, and also spared the evil ruler, Agag. When questioned by Samuel about not following God's direct orders, Saul said the sheep could be sacrificed to God. The next verse is interesting:

"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD ? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king." 1 Samuel 15:23

How do these Scriptures apply to us today? So many believe in sacrificing. They fast. They sacrifice certain habits during certain times of the year, but they do not obey God. They don't drink, smoke and eat certain foods, but they hate their brothers. Sacrifice is often works oriented, while obedience is God centered. Rebellion is the rejection of God's Word and His commandments. It is a stubborn turning away. It leads to idolatry or the worship of materials and self, rather than God. God would rather you obey His Word than sacrifice offerings unto Him.

You see, the fact is, it is easier for man to worship God through "doing" than it is by "believing." One is of works and the other of faith. Works often lead to a person trying to earn salvation. The motives, at such a point, are self-centered. While faith is God centered, knowing that all the works in the world cannot save nor change the heart, nor earn salvation. This isn't to say that good works aren't necessary, because part of obedience is to do good, but the motive and goal needs to be the glory of God, not self, and the acknowledgement that you cannot earn Heaven. Heaven and eternal life are free gifts based on ONE thing and one thing alone - the death of Christ on your behalf.

Are you trying to sacrifice and do good works to earn salvation? Are you like King Saul and only obey partly because you have your own agenda? Is part of you still in rebellion against God? All of us struggle with these issues because of our obstinate human nature. We can relate to King Saul, if we're honest with ourselves. We want to keep part of the goods of life for self, rather than destroy and forsake those things in our lives and trust God fully. Let us not give up and feel condemned. Remember, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. May we wise up and come to know God more fully, so that when He asks something of us, we trust Him instead of ourselves.

How Strong is Your Faith?

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Do you ever wonder how strong your faith really is? Have you ever been really tested to discover the strength of your commitment to God?

They say all people can be bought for a price. Do you believe that's true? I hope it's not true for me, and believe it or not, I have been tested on this point and passed the test a couple of times. My tests came at the hands of rich men who tried to buy my love. It wasn't much of a temptation, though I certainly could have used the money. I turned their offers down.

The true fight of faith is not only about the big temptations that come our way, but about our daily struggles and how we choose to approach life. You see, with each battle and struggle that comes our way we can walk in faith or choose not to. We can choose our way or God's way. The closer you come to God, the more your desires will be aligned with His. The place to get to is that place where you only seek to do the will of God. You have come to a place of complete trust in God's plan for your life.

How strong is your faith? If you find you can turn away from doing your own will because you know it's not only bad for you but that it will hurt the heart of God, then you are discovering the walk of faith. It is one of complete trust in God and His Word, rather than trust in self and what feels right. And again, the more you get to know God, and love Him, the more you realize His ways are better than your own.
posted by Ariala at 3:48 AM Comments (0) (permalink)

Sunday, July 6, 2008
Unconditional Love for Others
Christ's teaching on love wasn't like anything what was taught before Him. His mercy, compassion, and love were from an unconditional source that is ONLY possible when a divine connection exists between God and man.

Today, we're called to unconditional love. This sort of love allows others their points of views without a need from us to condemn or ridicule them. When we see everyone as objects of God's love and divine creation, we are moved to compassion and to love.

We're told to love our enemies and bless those who curse us. "44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." Matt. 5:44-45

The only way man can reach this sort of unconditional love is to become a son or daughter of God. God makes the sun rise and the rain fall on the good and the evil. In this sense, He doesn't show favoritism.

God's unconditional love is universal. As a child of God, we are called to share a universal love that is gentle and kind, not one that shows pride, ego, and a need to be right. No one is ever won to the Kingdom through argument and accusation. (Ph. 4:8-9). Equally consider the needs of others with your own needs (Mt.22:39) Take no thought for your life. (Mt. 6:25) Esteem others better than yourself. (Ph. 2:3) And to deny yourself by not giving in to the pleasures of sin. (Mt.16:24).

"For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." Romans 12:3

Humility and love are the only forces that bring ultimate change in the lives of those around us. Many times it calms the beast in others. Unconditional love is the only real love that makes the difference.

WHEN MUTUAL LOVE IS HARD TO FIND

I read something this morning that made me realize all over again that there are a lot of people out there who experience a one-sided emotional relationship with the object of their affection. Perhaps that object of affection returns a little bit of the feelings, but all in all, one person feels much more than the other.

In a sense, this is the way it is with God and human kind. He loves us fully. He waits for us to call on Him; to pray, talk with Him, read His Word and just fellowship with Him. God has feelings, too, and we see this throughout the Bible.

God feels hurt and pain when we reject Him. He feels jealousy when we "worship" other gods. This jealousy is not the same kind we have, but one of total protection over us. God cares for our good. Even when we turn our backs on Him, He continues to give us life and blessings in the form of good health, prosperity and etc.

Though God has many one-sided relationships with people, His love never ceases. He loves us both as a father loves a child, and like a husband loves his bride. In this instance, the church is God's bride. The church is made up of all believers, no matter their denomination. God knows who makes up His church, His bride, and He is protective of those who are His. Yet, even His bride does not return the love fully. In its present state, the church is imperfect. It lacks in faith. It lacks in power. It lacks in passion for God. God's bride is not fully in love with Him as it needs to be. Maybe some of you can relate? Maybe you've experienced the lack of love in a relationship. Maybe someone cheated on you. Maybe you know a little bit about how God must feel. Maybe you're the one who doesn't love like you should. You see your own lacks and inabilities to mutually give as you should.

In either case, God is there as an example and substitute. He knows our weaknesses and lacks; our imperfections and inabilities to conform to a higher authority...our inability to love Him fully...yet God's love never ends. When we begin to see how loving, kind and forgiving our God is to us...I mean REALLY see and understand it, we begin to respond to Him. He melts our hearts. He softens us. He makes us more compassionate, understanding and patient. He makes us more forgiving. He gives us a glimpse of what He must feel when we turn from Him and sin. A really neat Bible verse that has been put to music goes like this : "It's your kindness that leads us to repentance." God’s longsuffering leads us to repentance (2 Pet. 3:9) as does His kindness (Rom. 2:4).

After a while, you fall in love with God and begin to put Him first like you would a lover. You become singular and accountable to Him, never wanting to hurt Him, cheat on Him, or do anything to compromise your newly found love affair. God seeks to make us His and His alone...Are we ready to love Him mutually once and for all?

Who is Knocking on Your Door?

"I’m standing at the door and I’m knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in" (Revelation 3:20).

Every human being has a door to his or her heart. Imagine a knock on your heart's door, or the part of your mind that encompasses your emotions, and on the other side is the God of the Universe. Can you imagine saying, "Sorry, no one is home right now!" or "I'm not interested. Go away!"

Every day, people are turning God away as if He was a door-to-door carpet shampoo salesman. Now, go all the way to the end of the world when God will judge man. He turns to you and says, "Why didn't you open your door to me all those times I came knocking?"

Figuratively speaking, parables and various metaphors are used throughout the Bible to make a point. The above Scripture points out that God doesn't force Himself on man. He must be invited into the heart and life. Yet, people turn God away daily and moment by moment. Let's look at why this is:

Sin -The number one reason we turn God away is because of sin. We don't want to give up our pet sins. We cherish sin above God.

Wretchedness - We see ourselves as too sinful to fit in with God's "perfect saints." We've done way too many bad things to be a follower of God.

Selfishness - We don't want to let the Master in the door because we selfishly want to be our own masters.

Pride - We've always been against the notion of God, religion and such things and there's a part of us that refuses to give in because of pride and what others will say.

Unbelief - We simply don't believe and never have. We see too many inconsistencies, hypocrisies and etc. related to the Bible, Christians and so forth and have quenched any faith we once had.

Despite all these variables, God still comes knocking on the door. Some respond like King Agrippa when confronted by Paul, "Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian," (Acts 26:28) but they turn away. Even Pontious Pilate, I believe, had a conviction that Jesus was who He said He was, but his own pride and need to keep his reputation in tact with the Jews that yelled "Crucify Him" prevailed. His wife told him, "Don't have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of Him." (Matthew 27:19). "Secular history records that, about 36 A.D., the governor of Syria brought some sort of accusations against Pilate, which resulted in his being sent away to Vienne in Gaul. There, according to tradition, Pontius Pilate committed suicide." (A Study on Pontious Pilate)

Maybe all of us have memories of times when we almost believed and almost made a commitment to God, but instead, we turned away. I wonder how more many times will God come knocking on our doors before we finally answer Him or until we finally turn Him away for good.

ARE YOU LIVING THE ABUNDANT LIFE

"A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth." [Luke 12:15]

When most people think of abundance, they think of money, riches, wealth, but Jesus shared that a man's possession don't make him abundant. Then what does? "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven..."(Matthew 6:20)

True abundance comes from that which is spiritual. To lay up oneself treasure in heaven means to invest in things that can't be stolen or rust away. These include all things of the spirit.

Because spiritual abundance is more abstract, sometimes it's harder to understand, but to simplify it, the process is an investment in faith, trust in God, compassion, love, the claiming of promises and the gift of repentance. The fruits of the spirit are among a spiritual investment as well: besides those already mentioned, they include joy, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. As we allow God's character, full of these wonderful qualities to dwell in us, we are investing in heaven and filling our cup of abundance to the brim.

CAN LIGHT HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH DARKNESS?

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life." John 8:12

"Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. " John 12:35

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness."

The works of darkness are all around us. If Jesus is the light of the world, anyone who is not for Him, is against Him. Those who mock Him and His followers are by defintion of the darkness. We are not to have fellowship with the unfruitful work of darkness...that is to say, we should not support and try to play footsie with those who spread darkness, especially those who hate the truth of the Gospel.

With that said, how are we to reach a world referred to as being in the dark? The true mark of those walking in the light is love. If you love your brother, you are in the light.

"But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes." 1 John 2:11

"Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him." 1 John 3:16-19

Though every day we come across people who are living in darkness, we are to continue to share the love of God with them...however, there may come a point when those who have heard the truth and the message of light over and over and have rejected it, cannot be reached. To fellowship with such isn't counseled. Instead, Jesus advised us to shake the dust off our feet and move on. There are many others ready to hear truth. Don't spend all your time on one or two who refuse the light.

We shouldn't give up on people with our prayers, but some are better left alone. Remember you are not the Harvester. You are a seed sower. The seeds will fall on all sorts of ground. In the end, there will always be those who choose not to believe. They mock God, Jesus and the Gospel truth. If you've done and said everything you know how, then just let them be. Pray to God for them and don't push.

"And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light..." This is common knowledge. Even watching the news at times can penetrate your peace with fear; your thankful heart with cynicism; and replace your purity with impure thoughts. Sexual innuendos in commercials, TV programs; violence, false theology about the character of God and on and on we go.

Our senses, particularly the sense of sight can directly affect our levels of temptations as images and the philosophy of a program integrates with our own thoughts and feelings. Some people are emotionally stronger than others and aren't easily persuaded one way or another, yet because music and television bipass the frontal lobe where decisions are made, much of what we see and hear goes directly to the subconscious.

Another thing to consider is how you are vicariously participating in whatever is on the screen. David had the right idea when stating, "I will set no wicked thing before my eyes..." (Is. 8:20)

"Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations." (Neh 9:26 )

People always ask, what is truth? How do we know what is truth? The Bible makes it clear that the words of the law and the testimony (words of prophets recorded in Scripture) are truth, and that anyone who doesn't preach, write or speak according to the word, or who teach people to break the law of God and the testimony, have no light in them.

The Word of God can be summed up by His character through the law and through the person of Christ. The 10 Commandments are the moral law and were not done away at the cross. What was done away at the cross were the sacrifices and ceremonies related to feast days. Christ became the fulfillment of the ceremonial law as the perfect Lamb of God.

There is a movement among some Christian denominations that believe the Word of God isn't necessary. Instead, they believe the Holy Spirit teaches them through the gift of tongues. They don't need the law, the testimony or the Word because they are supposedly "under the spirit." The above verses tell us such people do not have the light. After all the Holy Spirit would not contradict the Word.

Then you have other movements that teach tradition and the ways of man, as ordained by papal order to be above the Word of God. Their titles claim they are Vicar of Christ, and yet they do not teach the law of God, but have in fact, tampered with God's laws by bringing in their own traditions, days of worship and etc. The above verses tell us such movements and people do not have the light. After all, if they did, they would not continually contradict the Word.

Finally, you have a movement that seems Christ-centered but say that we are under grace and not under the law. They teach that the law was nailed to the cross. They preach much truth, but unfortunately, they pick and choose which parts of the 10 Commandments are still relevant and which are not. The above verses tell us such do not have the light. After all, if they did, they would not contradict the Word.

"Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 5:19)

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." (Luke 12:15)

There is something in man that makes him feel he never has enough. This feeling, if not kept in check, can lead to covetousness - that sense of wanting what someone else has.

Material possessions often enslave rather than free us. If we are wise, we will put our trust in God, not in mammon or money. Your spiritual thermometer can guide you into knowing your own heart concerning material goods. Here's an idea of what I'm talking about...When finances are challenged:

*My faith is challenged, too
*I worry
*I begin to doubt God
*I get depressed
*It darkens my whole world
*I begin to want to take things into my own hands
*I consider doing something illegal to get more money
*I consider compromising my standards to advance myself financially
*I ask why the wicked have so much money
*I begin to covet those who are wealthy

If any of the above are all too familiar, you are still materialistic and haven't learned to fully trust God. Because all of us our human, these "feelings" are natural and may be our first instincts, however, a person of faith CHOOSES not to indulge in that first instinct, but instead, prays and lays it all into God's hands. He or she asks for guidance, help and illumination for to what to do next. Then, the person learns to WAIT upon the Lord. PATIENCE! After you've exhausted all other possibilities within your own power, what other choice do you have?

God directs the mind and life into the path to take, from the start, to the middle, and to the end. Abundance is not based on your material possessions, but rather on the amount of faith you have when your possessions are challenged or taken away.

HOW CAN YOU KNOW TRUTH?

"To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Is.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." I Peter 8

The Bible is full of good counsel. The above verse warns us to be sober, meaning, not to drink and get drunk, and to be vigilant or keenly watchful. Why? Because the great deciever, known as the devil, is always around, seeking to devour and destroy us like the predator that he is.

It is so easy for us to go astray and into areas of dangers. When we walk soberly and keep vigilant watch over our minds, hearts and souls, the devil cannot devour us like a lion. But how do we do this?

I propose that we follow some guidelines:

*Read the Bible daily. In it are keys to peace, hope, joy, love and overcoming.
*When tempted, walk away, don't indulge.
*If you know something, some place or someone is a temptation to you, stay away.
Don't play on the edge of what you know to be wrong and sinful.
*Guard your senses. The devil cannot assault us unless we make ourselves available to him by opening up our eyes, ears, and the rest of our senses to those things that would make us fall.
*Be greatful. A thankful heart can make the difference between night and day in your attitude.
*Practice living by faith, not by sight. Don't indulge in skeptism and doubts or they will take root and destroy the very center of your spiritual strength - your faith.

I'm sure as we apply the verse above into our own personal lives, the "sober and vigilant" section of the Scripture becomes even more specific to us in behaviors we should put into practice as we guard against the wiles of the devil.

DO YOU NEED TO WAIT UNTIL YOU'RE PERFECT TO SPEAK OF GOD?

Perfectionists have a difficult time with God. They usually become religious, but lack spirituality. They seek to perfect all sorts of characteristics within themselves, but lack the most important thing - a faith relationship with God. This latter characteristic leads to love for others.

Overcoming bad habits is a great thing that all of us should work at, but just because you can hold your tongue better than your neighbor can hold his doesn't make you "better." You may be more disciplined, but discipline doesn't save a person from sin.

The truth of the matter is, the more "perfect" a person is in his own eyes, the more he stands in judgment of others. He is quick to point out what you're not doing right. She is quick to tell you what you need to change. Nitpickers of the soul are dangerous to spirituality. Jesus was surrounded by these sorts of people. He often confronted them with words like, "Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel." (Matt. 23:24) "You poisonous snakes! How can you evil people say anything good? Your mouth says what comes from inside you," or in the King James version, "O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (Matt. 12:34)

If all of us are honest with ourselves, we will admit that our imperfect natures sometimes lead us to say and do the opposite of what our spirit longs to do. This hypocrisy is common among all people and often comes out when we are struggling in life. When the "self" is threatened and we long to defend ourselves, we begin that process of standing in judgment of others as we criticize and etc.

There is only one hope for perfectionists and imperfectionists, and that is Jesus Christ Himself. He is the perfect lamb that takes away the sin of the world. No matter how good a person is, he is unable to save himself from the mark of sin and death. Even if you rise to human perfection, God says your good deeds are as filthy rags. This means that man has to have a mediator between God and himself -- Christ is that mediator, the only perfect man that has ever lived.

As we strive to "put on Christ" we are slowly changed into His image. Sometimes the depravity of our own image and imperfections shine through, but we must be patient with ourselves and each other as we grow into what God wants us to be. The promise should always ring true in our souls: "Being confident in this, that He who began a good work in you, will be faithful to complete it." (Philipians 1:6)

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?

"Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken." Proverbs 3:25, 26

We are told in Scripture that events in the world are going to get bad. If one were to dwell only on these events, whether they are war, famine, financial destruction, disease, pestilence and natural disasters, one would struggle with bouts of fear.

There are comforting scriptures that promise God's protection, care and even his shield and shadow to hide us when necessary.

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. (Romans 8:38-39)

Fear is the absence of trust. God calls us to trust Him fully. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Proverbs 15:1A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

People always long to change those around them. The fact is, we really can't make anyone do anything they don't want to do...but the above verses deal with how to soften the hearts of our enemies, or at least, those who are angry with us.

So often we're ready to defend our positions and to condemn our opponents. Rather than seeing that maybe we have something to do with the anger they harbor, we continue to throw gasoline on the fire.

A gentle answer turns away wrath...I love that verse...but notice that a harsh word stirs up anger.

There is no reason to purposely go around stirring wrath and anger, or pushing buttons. Yet, many religious people do this and justify it by saying "The others did it first." As if this is a valid reason to continue to stir wrath and anger...

As spiritual people and Christians, it is our duty to reflect God's character, not our own, nor to reflect the character of our attackers. Taking the high road isn't easy, but it's the right way. If you want to be like God, then be "gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and rich in love." Even your greatest enemy might be subdued by your kindnesses.

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO FOR THOSE YOU LOVE?

All of us are protective over those we love, whether it's our children, our spouses, a family member or friend. Lovers often express that they would do anything for the one they love.

The Bible tells us, "Greater love has no man than that he lay down his life for his friends." The greatest gift given to humanity was the birth and death of Jesus Christ. How far did He go for humans? He left His place in Heaven, His divinity, and put on the garbs of man. By becoming one of us, He was able to bear the sins of the world and be our substitute. He was also our example by showing us what it means to be in communion with God. Jesus never did His own will. Throughout the Scriptures we read where He always prayed and did the will of God.

Human beings, for the most part, don't understand the gift of salvation through Christ. So what, a man died on the cross for us? The beauty of this is that Christ bore your sins and mine so we wouldn't have to die the second death - burning up in hell where the consequences are forever. Christ became sin for us. His sacrifice makes it possible for us to escape hell fire and be saved eternally. If that's not a big deal to you, you haven't yet understand the value of eternal life and the consequences of being forever blotted out from existence.

So often we get swept away by the cares of this life that we forget the big picture, but Christ hasn't forgotten us like we've forgotten Him. He continues to plead our cases before God as we are living in this day of atonement. One day soon, however, the Bible tells us that Michael (another name for Christ in the Bible) will stand up and he who is righteous will be righteous still and he who is unrighteous will be unrighteous still. In other words, once the investigative judgment into human hearts and lives is over, we will either be on one side or the other. We will have sealed our fate by the choice to either accept the Savior and live or reject Him and die the second death.

The gift is yours by faith. All you have to do is accept Christ as both Lord and Savior of your life. Accepting Him as Savior means you acknowledge that you cannot save yourself. You accept Him as your substitute. Accepting Him as Lord means you obey and follow His commands and leading. You accept Him as your example. One is justification and the other is sanctification. The Christ in You, hope of glory, is both your justification and sanctification; all this by faith.

WHO LIVES IN YOU?

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20

"Why is this verse so important to me? Because it gets to the heart of the most essential matters of the Christian life. As F. B. Meyer puts it, this is Paul's 'confession of the power of the cross in his own life. It stood between him and the past. His self-life was nailed there, and this new life was no longer derived from vain efforts to keep the Law, but from the indwelling and [overflowing] of the life of Jesus—the perennial spring ofJohn 4:14 -- But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.'" Dr. Stephen Olford

As we begin to shift our focus from self to Christ, we begin to be molded into humility. We realize our inability to keep the law of God or even present a good testimony and witness to the world. "Faith in Jesus Christ, then, is not intellectual conviction only, but personal commitment. So justification is not only a legal fact in which we are declared righteous by a holy God; it is also a transforming experience through a living identification with Christ. By union with Christ we are radically transformed; we can no longer go back to our old life, for in Christ we are 'a new creation.'" Dr. Stephen Olford

The true test of one's faith is not just good deeds (anyone can do those), but a changed life of walking and communing with Christ. A changed heart and life are what those who came into contact with Christ had -- Mary Magdalene, Matthew, the tax collector, Peter, the angry fishermen and all his disciples. Judas represents those that want salvation by their own doing and their own works. They may have good intentions, but they refuse to be crucified with Christ to live. They refuse the will of God and the power that leads to a changed life. Such is the wide way that leads to death.

"It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." No longer is our life self-centered but Christ-centered. By the ministry of the Holy Spirit the Lord Jesus lives out His life in us day by day as we maintain total dependence on Him. The apostle says the same thing in his letter to the Romans, exhorting his readers to "present [themselves] to God as being alive from the dead and [their] members as instruments of righteousness to God" (Romans 6:!3) We do not relinquish ourselves to an enemy, but we present ourselves as a bride to the bridegroom who has wooed and won us in love." Since the word "spiritual" contains the word "spirit," I personally believe we must look to the ultimate Spirit giver, God Himself, through the work of the Holy Spirit.

"The Spirit alone can render believers spiritual. It is His work to bring men into spirituality. In the arrangement of God’s redemptive design the cross performs the negative work of destroying all which comes from Adam while the Holy Spirit executes the positive work of building all which comes from Christ. The cross makes spirituality possible to believers; but it is the Holy Spirit Who renders them spiritual. The meaning of being spiritual is to belong to the Holy Spirit. He strengthens with might the human spirit so as to govern the entire man. In our pursuit of spirituality, therefore, we must never forget the Holy Spirit. Yet we must not set aside the cross either, because the cross and the Spirit work hand in hand. The cross always guides men to the Holy Spirit, while the Latter without fail conducts men to the cross. These two never operate independently of each other. A spiritual Christian must experimentally know the Holy Spirit in his spirit. He must pass through several spiritual experiences." Watchman Nee

These spiritual experiences lead us to greater faith and trust in God. Ultimately, God's goal is not to make man independently strong and a super human. God's ultimate goal is to draw all men to Him to live His life through us. He wants us to depend on His works, His righteousness, and His power to live the life He calls us to live. This can only be done as the Holy Spirit makes us spiritual.

“The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt. 26.41). Willingness by itself is not sufficient; the spirit also must be strong. In order for the inner man to be strengthened with power through the Holy Spirit, the children of God must discharge their responsibility. They need to yield specifically to the Lord, forsake every doubtful aspect in their life, be willing to obey fully God’s will, and believe through prayer that He will flood their spirit with His power." But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed...A double minded man [is] unstable in all his ways." (James 1-1-8)

It seems that in order to become more patient, we must undergo different temptations to try our faith. We are told that we can become perfect. Another word for perfect, is mature, and that this perfection comes through trial. We are counseled to ask God for wisdom and to not waiver in our faith. This may seem impossible at times, but that's all part of the process of maturing in faith.

The key to this whole section of Scriptures is the last sentence: "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." This speaks to those who live two lives; struggle between two lifestyles or anything that causes a person to be double minded. Did you know that it's nearly impossible to be happy if you're a double minded person?

"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

It is possible to be thankful and even content in all situations? As we yield ourselves to the righteousness of Christ, His wisdom, His love, His godliness flow through us and out of us to help us deal with whatever situation we find ourselves in. The more we discover our weaknesses, the more we yield to His strength. We find we can be content no matter what situation we're in for we know that we are ultimately under the control, power and care of our God and Father.

HOW JUDGMENTAL ARE YOU ANYWAY?

If there was a test one could take to determine one's level of judgmentalism, I wonder how all of us would score?

Discernment is one thing. Realizing I have a "mote" in own eye keeps me from trying to take out the mote in someone else's eye.

I seek after humility like Solomon sought after wisdom. I have been far from humble most of my life, but when I look at Christ, I see humility and my desire is to be like Christ, not some arrogant, loud-mouth, know-it-all. The flesh, however, is full of pride. Our natures lead to pride and self-glorification. I find that these tendencies also lead us to compare ourselves with others, and in turn lead to their judgment.

True humility isn't concerned with the details of everyone else's lives, but rather, true humility leads to praying quietly for those around us. If after spending time in prayer we feel called to speak a gentle word to another about something, we should. If, however, our words will only make things worse, we shouldn't.

No one likes feeling judged and condemned by another. Such things lead to anger and rebellion, not to mention acts of war and defensiveness.
If you want to change others, try changing yourself first.

SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM

A popular verse often quoted from the Bible is "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matt. 6:33) The verses prior to this one tell of man's obsession with temporal needs like determining what to eat, what do drink, what to wear, and the writer goes on to tell us not to worry about such things, but to seek after the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, instead. Notice it doesn't say your own righteousness.

As we seek the Kingdom of God, we not only find the treasures of that Kingdom: peace, oneness with God, and eternal life, but we also find the goodness of righteousness that changes us. As we put on the robes of living water, we are cleansed and made anew.

There is something that happens to all of us when we put on certain garments. If you put on your best evening gown or tux, you're more likely to think, act and feel a little differently than if you're wearing wholly jeans and a dirty t'shirt. This is a crude example and can't really be compared fully to putting on the robes of Christ's righteousness, but I think you understand what I'm trying to say. Putting on the robes of Christ's righteousness leaves a certain feeling on the human mind and heart, as well as the life he seeks to live.

It's true that those around us may not understand, nor agree, with how our lives have changed, but we do not pass judgment on them no matter their disagreements with us. They are free to think and do as they please. Our mission is not one of control; to have power over others or to coerce them to belief. It's simply to do the will of God...to seek after HIS righteousness. Christ's life shines in us and as we behold Christ we are changed...as others behold us, and seek to have what we do, we point them to the only source of true, lasting change -- the Kingdom of God and HIS righteousness. There is no glory in our own selves. If anything, we become humble, stay away from debates and arguments, walk the walk we're called to walk, not looking to the left nor to the right, but straight ahead.

CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF FROM VISUAL ASSAULTS?

"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me." Psalms 101:3

Some people long to remain pure not only in heart, but in vision, too. Yet today, we are bombarded by sex, nudity, promiscuity, porn, and other visual images that cause our minds to stray from the straight and narrow. It's hard to surf the Internet and not experience the visual assaults that cause the mind to wonder. They say men are more visual than women and struggle more in this area, but I have no doubt that women have become more visual over the years.

For the person who doesn't want to engage in visual warfare with the flesh, there is no question that this person will stay away from anything that would cause him or her to fall...fall? Yes, fall into temptation. Yet, you find that some people who go in search of provocative images that will stimulate and tempt them. In fact, some people don't care if the images cause a sexual response. They don't see anything wrong with it. They see nothing wrong with engaging in sexual adultery with women their daughter's age in strip clubs, through visual photos online, on television, or in magazines. They would never want to see their daughters, sisters, wives or mothers engage in such activity, yet they don't care that it's somebody else's daughter, sister, wife or mother participating in these activities. This is hypocrisy.

Until mankind begins to care deeply and respect one another by not promoting, supporting, and engaging in these activities, the problem will continue. Abuse, capitalizing on the flesh, taking advantage of young girls, and exploiting women is the underlying issue behind most, if not all, porn and sexual images your run across. Sex sells, but wouldn't it be great if human beings wouldn't buy into this?

I don't believe in censorship. I believe in self-control. Exploiters will always be out there and have been since the beginning. Everyone has a choice and I would never rob anyone of that choice. If people want to participate in the exploitation of women, that's their choice. Until people come to understand and internalize the damage such exploitation does in the lives of women, their moral compass will remain self-focused on pleasure and satisfaction at all cost. When our moral compass shifts and we begin to respect each other, we will cease to participate in activities that exploit others.

PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO BE FREE IN CHRIST. IT'S TOO EASY, SO IT CAN'T BE RIGHT

Many people feel the need to earn salvation. They work hard, just like they do in their jobs, to please God. The whole time they neglect the most important thing -- a relationship with God. While they do all the good things we're called to do - minister to the sick, take care of the widows and fatherless, visit those in jail, they miss the author of the Gospel Himself - Christ.

Our goal in life is not to seek the lost at all cost, compromising ourselves along the way, forcing them with new techniques, manipulation, coercion and creative & exciting music. No, our goal in life is to to the will of God and one cannot do that without first having Christ as best friend and author of our faith.

As we spend time with the Father, our characters are molded into what He would have us be so others can be attracted to Christ in us, the hope of glory. All the theology and doctrine will make no difference to the person on the street who needs hope. One can't fake what's genuine. Eventually, the false is seen and people are turned off.

Before you do one good thing for God and your brethren, be sure you have come to know your Father in Heaven through prayer and the study of the Word of God. Study Jesus and His relationship with God. Notice how He never took credit for God's power to do what He did. Many today are so full of self-righteousness, they have no room for Christ nor for giving God the glory. Yes, they claim to work for God, while boasting of their good works and their discipline.

"Without faith it is impossible to please God." Faith leads us to pleasing God. Faith recognizes one's own inability to be what Christ was and is WITHOUT Christ living within. All of us can strive to improve our human condition, study all the techniques that lead to self-disipline, a good diet, anger control management and etc., but this is not Christ living in you and through you. This is all fine and good, but it's you improving on your flesh and human nature. We are called to something better, higher and more lasting than the effort of improving only on the flesh. "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 2:5)

The mind that we need is that of Christ's. Not our own improved mind, but Christ's mind dwelling in us. "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature..." 2 Peter 1:4

The divine nature is not our nature improved. It's Christ's nature in us by faith. It has to do with putting on Christ...putting on the robes of righteousness, for our own robes are as filthy rags, no matter how "good" you are. "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." Isaiah 64:6 "THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE." Romans 3:12

So, if our good works don't save us, why do we need to obey? What's the use in doing good if there's no salvation in good works? "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 Notice it says we were created for good works and that God prepared them beforehand.
Our good works and salvation are complete in Christ. We are just partaking of the divine nature by letting God's work flow through us. This is why all glory goes to God. It is God working through us that makes "good works" possible.

Without a relationship with Christ, all good deeds are dead works. ""How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Hebrew 9:14

"To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." Romans 3:26-28

"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Galatians 2:16

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Titus 3:5

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." James 2:26

Strive for a dynamic, living relationship with Christ and you will become partakers of the divine nature, doing His good pleasure and purpose on earth, including good works that He has ordained and prepared for you to do. Live by faith and you will fulfill the righteousness of the law as divinity dwells and works through you.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://unconditionallove4u.blogspot.com/2007/09/people-dont-want-to-be-free-in-christ.html' title='PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO BE FREE IN CHRIST. Hudson Taylor, a missionary to China who lived between the years of 1832-1905, once wrote a letter to his sister and quoted from a man named McCarthy and said, "But how to get faith strengthened? Not by striving after faith, but by resting on the Faithful One."

Much of the world today is looking for more faith, more rest, more peace, but their methods of obtaining such things are in vain as they depend on self. Through hypnotism, EFT, meditation, and many other channels and methods, people are learning to discipline their minds and bodies. Though I have nothing against some these methods, and practice them myself, they are not the TRUE channel of rest. Man need not strive after faith, rest, peace but rather simply rest in the Faithful One, Christ Himself. There is a big difference.

"I am crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me, and the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of God who loved me and gave himself for me". (Galations 2:20)

When Christ lives in me and through me, I am at rest. The peace that passes all understanding comes over me when I rest on the Faithful One.

Here is a link to a study that's worth reading. It's very long but worth the time. It encompasses the message of power on the subject of Christ living in us and man living in Christ. When Jesus said, "The Kingdom of God is in you," (Luke 17:21) He meant just that. The Kingdom is not something we have to work at creating, it is there by faith.

Man's main task in the spiritual life is to maintain a relationship with Christ. Just as relationships with human beings are strengthened by spending time together, so is our relationship with Christ. By establishing a love relationship with God, through Christ, we begin to allow His life to have divine power and influence in our own. We rest by simply trusting God is powerful enough to work from the inside out.

One of my favorite theologians is Martin Luther. Poor Luther. He spent so many years trying to overcome sin and as many sincere people of his day, he flogged himself for his sins...suddenly, one day, Luther read a Bible verse that changed his life, "The just shall live by faith." After spending years under the control of theology and religion, without a vibrant experience and relationship with Christ, Luther discovered the true Gospel. He learned that salvation was by faith, not by works. He learned that salvation was in Christ, not some church and man-made authority. Luther protested the teachings of his church which had perverted the good news of the Gospel.

Luther, like Taylor discovered that faith and rest are in Christ and Christ alone. Taylor wrote, "Faith, I now see, is 'the substance of things hoped for' and not mere shadow. It is not less than sight, but more. Sight only shows the outward forms of things; faith gives the substance. You can rest on substance; you can feed on substance. Christ dwelling in the heart by faith (i.e. faith in His word of promise) is power indeed, is life indeed.

This is the good news! Salvation is a free gift. As we abide in Christ, He abides in us. Rest in this promise and let the seed of faith grow in you today. “Come unto Me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28).

DOES LIVING UNDER GRACE MEAN WE STOP DOING GOOD DEEDS?

A mistake prevalent in the Christian world today is that grace and law don't go together. The law, we might say, is there to point out where we need grace! LOL

As I mentioned yesterday, when Christ is living His life within you, the changes come from within. It's not fake, put on, a hard effort or anything like that. Yet, you realize your goodness, righteousness and good deeds/works are a product of salvation, but do not lead to salvation.

Salvation is a free gift. There's nothing man can do to add to his or her salvation. You cannot be saved by works and when I said yesterday there is no salvational merit in good deeds, I'm just echoing the words found in the Bible. "No man is justified by the deeds of the law." A few days ago I posted this verse: "For by grace you are saved by faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

Just because salvation isn't by works, doesn't mean we stop working. In fact, true faith is seen by our works. The law of God is established in man through obedience. You don't keep the law of God to be saved, you keep the law of God because you ARE saved. There's a big difference. You see, most religions of the world teach a form of salvation or becoming right with God by doing acts of mercy, sacrifice, and/or works to appease God. Yet, salvation in Christianity cannot be bought for a price. No amount of money or works will gain salvation. IT IS A GIFT.
When Christ is living within us, the gift of salvation begins to express itself through love for God and for others. This is the natural progresson of salvation. It leads to what we call sanctification, or the process of becoming holy. There is no holiness in man. Becoming a monk and flogging yourself day and night, doesn't make you holy. Holiness is in Christ. There is no holiness in man and his flesh. It's all Christ living in you. I read a quote this morning by Oswald Chambers that I thought was worth sharing:

"Once we realize that it is through the salvation of Jesus Christ that we are made perfectly fit for the purpose of God, we will understand why Jesus Christ is so strict and relentless in His demands. He demands absolute righteousness from His servants, because He has put into them the very nature of God."

Our absolute righteousness is not possible because man is perfect, but because God is. The very nature of God can and does live in God's people, but only by faith and our choice. Each moment we can allow God's divine purpose, the seed of wisdom and hope to live out His life within us or we can choose our own course. Grace and salvation lead to good works and keeping God's commandments. It's not the other way around.

I want to share one of my favorite hymns with you by Live Out Thy Life Within Me.

WHO'S LIVING IN YOU?

For the last few weeks, I've been talking about "Christ in you, the hope of glory." I've discussed that good works are good, but have no salvational value in them, and that God in you, is what needs to shine forth. As God shines forth, there is no vain pride in the life you live or the good deeds you do. You recognize yourself to be a vessel of love in which the choice is to allow God to live His life through you.

Here is a wonderful quote from a man I read every day as part of my morning devotions. I think it makes the point clear:

"The true expression of Christian character is not in good-doing, but in God-likeness. If the Spirit of God has transformed you within, you will exhibit divine characteristics in your life, not just good human characteristics. God’s life in us expresses itself as God’s life, not as human life trying to be godly. The secret of a Christian’s life is that the supernatural becomes natural in him as a result of the grace of God, and the experience of this becomes evident in the practical, everyday details of life, not in times of intimate fellowship with God. And when we come in contact with things that create confusion and a flurry of activity, we find to our own amazement that we have the power to stay wonderfully poised even in the center of it all." (Oswald Chambers, http://www.rbc.org/utmost/index.php)

It is not natural to forgive others. It is not natural to be kind to your enemies. It is not natural to walk away from the flesh and temptations that lead to sin, yet when your life is yielded to God, His character will begin to shine forth. Your choices will change and reflect the divine.
"If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another" ( 1 John 1:7) Walking in light leads to fellowship with one another. It leads to love and kindness, compassion for our brothers and sisters, and forgiveness. God is not just about the big picture. He is about the details of your life, if you'll let Him be.

CASTING DOWN ARGUMENTS AND ALL THINGS THAT EXALT THEMSELVES AGAINST GOD

" .. . casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God . . ." 2 Corinthians 10:5

There is a spirit in ourselves and in others that seeks to exalt itself against the knowledge of God. This character trait leads to arguments, debates, and a need to be right at all cost. It's very self oriented, and in being argumentative, it leads to exalting one against the knowledge of God.

Let's look at that verse in context. "3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ..."

We learn here that the wars of the flesh include: strongholds, arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Those who want to argue that there is no God and that all things spiritual are a myth are exalting themselves against God. Another Bible translation reads like this: "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God..." Any lofty opinion that seeks to exalt itself against God must be destroyed in ourselves. We do not have to destroy it in others, (because that goes against free will) but as we destroy it in ourselves, those of a controversial, argumentative spirit will stay away from us. If we, on the other hand, engage an argumentative, debating spirit in others, we ourselves get tangled in the war of the flesh.

I've often heard it said that we must choose our battles carefully. We can't avoid all battles, fights, arguments and debates, but we can learn to recognize when the battle we're being drawn into is not of God and will not lead to anyone feeling better during or after a fight...so why get pulled into such emotional and spiritual debauchery?

Our walk of faith means claiming the victory that Christ already won for us. Our main job is to believe...the character changes as we begin to "bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." Every thought, opinion, debate, and feeling must be brought into submission to the highest authority -- God and His Word, not your own human opinion and philosophy.

ARE YOU RIGHTEOUS?

"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Corinthians 5:21)

There is a mystery in the whole process of salvation that begins with Christ's death for mankind. No other religion teaches that God sent his Son to die for sin. In fact, in most religions, followers must appease their gods with all kinds of works, blood letting, sacrifices and etc., but in Christ, the sacrifice is complete as He came down and became sin for us.

In the act of Christ's death, sin's power over us was broken. Many people don't understand this and continue to struggle trying to make their flesh "good." They struggle with sin as if they are Christ. Instead of yielding to Christ and accepting the victory, they try to gain the victory over the flesh and the mind by themselves.

Throughout the Bible we're told that our righteousness is as filthy rags. You see, no matter how good you become in yourself and in your flesh, without Christ in the heart, there is no righteousness or salvation. Our natures are fallen. We cannot take what is fallen and make it holy. Our holiness is in Christ. Our salvation is in Christ. Our righteousness and good works are in Christ. It is all Christ.

When Christ is living within, we begin to yield our lives to good deeds, purity and etc., but if man is not in Christ, he begins to try to convince the world around him of how good and spiritual he is. There's a difference.

"Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord" (2 Corinthians 10:17). "Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 6:14).

The only boasting we have the right to is in the cross, that is, in Christ becoming righteousness for us. Until man takes his eyes off of himself and his own so-called "good works," he is stuck in the quick sand of pride. Pride pulls a man down, though he feels himself being lifted up. He thinks himself better than others and more superior, yet God calls him and his righteousness filthy. Our hope is not in self and being good. It is in Christ and claiming the victory that is already promised AS A GIFT.

"For by grace you are saved by faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

Have you accepted this gift yet? It's free! That's what a gift is. By simply asking Christ into your heart in a silent prayer, you can receive the gift of God into your life. Through grace, by faith, that gift is planted like a seed in your heart. From there, salvation (justification) and sanctification (holiness) will begin. It is ALL CHRIST, not you or me...

Let Christ be your righteousness today.

DO YOU WANT FREEDOM OR BONDAGE?

"For you were called for freedom, brothers. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself...' I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law." (Galations 5:10-18)

There is a misconception in the world today that people who follow Christ and obey the Word of God are somehow in bondage, but it is clear that those who are guided by the Spirit are not under the law. This doesn't mean they are lawbreakers, but rather, because of their deep connection with God, through the Spirit, the law is established in them. They fulfill the whole ten commandments by loving God with all their hearts and their neighbors, too. This is what Jesus said in Mat. 22:36-40: "...Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." A close examination of the ten commandments show that the first four have to do with our relationship with God, and the last six with our relationship to man.

Love is the great commandment of freedom. One cannot love God or his neighbor without being born of the Spirit. The flesh doesn't allow this sort of love. It makes provision for hatred, jealousy, envy, covetousness and everything that leads to contention, bitterness, and war. The flesh leads to bondage. The person who is filled by the love and Spirit of God fulfills the law of love.

"I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God." (Galations 2:20)
To be crucified with Christ is putting to death your own flesh, and then allowing Christ to live within you. This is the walk of faith. This is the walk of freedom. Don't let the voices of deception convince you that living by the Spirit is bondage.

True freedom can only be found in Christ. If love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are not part of your life, then you do not know freedom. You do not know what it means to live by the Spirit. For these are the fruits of the Spirit that cannot be faked. The Bible tells us that "against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

I invite you to seek TRUE freedom by the Bible's definition, not that of the world, the flesh or the devil. "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galations 5:1

WHEN GOD CHOOSES YOU

“Many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14).

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).

How do you know if God is calling you to a certain task or mission? Although the first verse above has to do with salvation, it's interesting to apply it to your calling, whatever that may be. The fact of the matter is, the harvest or the gathering of the saints (and sinners) is a task that requires many laborers, and there are only a few. The Bible makes it clear that the calling of man isn't one to happiness and contentment in this world, but holiness and preparation for next. This life is about having a relationship with God and walking the walk of faith.

Knowing what God is calling you to requires discernment and a keen inner ear. Here are some things I came up with that may help you discern when God may be choosing you to do something for the Kingdom:

A Persistent Burden for a Ministry - If you have a strong feeling or burden for something, someone or a group of people, places, etc., you may be hearing the voice of God trying to get you to commit to a certain project. An inner burden to help in a special way is a very high calling that you shouldn't ignore.

Examine your talents and skills - Not everyone can sing or be a missionary in a foreign land, but God has given us all talents to share his Gospel. What's your talent? What skills do you possess that can be used in the work of God? Spend time in prayer discerning and asking God how you can apply your talents to the great work of "bringing in the sheaves."

Reading the Word of God - As you read the Bible, you may get a direct call from God to a mission field. You may read about what an apostle did and feel called to do something similar. Reading the Word gives you insight into your own calling. Pray and let God minister to you through His Word and then see how His Word can be used to "draw all men unto Him."

Every day circumstances - As you go through your every day life, are there signs, feelings and convictions you experience that lead you in a certain direction? Keep a keen spiritual eye on how God may be using your own circumstances to get your attention to being involved in a spiritual mission.

The still small voice of God - We're told that God speaks to us in a still, small voice. If only we'd listen! Perhaps we'd hear what God would like us to do for Him. Many voices can be heard from within. To discern if it's the voice of God, it will be consistent to what His Word, the Bible, says. Any voice that calls you to be cruel, unkind and violent is obviously not the voice of God. Love is God's language and His still, small voice may share specific ways you can minister to mankind. Spend time listening.

When God chooses you, you will feel honored to serve. Don't let fear and lack of skill keep you from becoming a disciple. All that is really needed is a willing heart that is available to serve. If you're not willing, pray the prayer, "Lord, make me willing to be made willing," and see where the miracles lead!

ARE YOU A PERSON OF EXCUSES?

Something all children must learn and at some point MOST do is accountability and taking responsibility for one's actions. Unfortunately, some people grow from childhood to adulthood without learning either. As a result, they wreak havoc in the lives of others and in their own lives.

By making excuses for ourselves and our actions, we are perpetuating the very problem that keeps us in this state of immaturity. Spiritual immaturity can be seen in continuing to make the wrong choices and blaming everyone else for them. It can be seen in self-centeredness and a need for attention at all cost, no matter the consequences.

Is there a cure for the emotional and spiritual immaturity possibly present in all of us?
The need is for gaining control of this impulsive need to create and generate excuses for our behaviors. Here are the steps one must take, in my opinion.

Admitting the problem. Until a person says, "Hey, I'm screwed up and want to change," that person won't.

Getting emotional and spiritual help. Some people are cured by simply taking a spiritual approach to life. Some are not because their problems are psychological and may require drugs.
Practicing spirituality day in and day out. It's not a one time thing. Narcissists who become Christians often give Christians a bad name because they think life is just about them. They don't care about anyone but themselves. One must get beyond self and see the big picture. It's not just about you...it's about God and others.

Learning to forgive yourself and others. Until a person realizes he or she is flawed as are others, that person will continue to wage war on those that hurt them, but in the process, they begin the destruction of their own lives. Learning to forgive and forget and to not harbor bitterness are key points in healing.

Giving the heart and mind to God. This is a choice that must be made daily. It is a process of submitting to a higher authority; to the Creator of the Universe who knows what is best for you. When you take your life into your own hands, and then suffer as a result, you have no right to blame God and everyone around you. It's your own mess, and, so, learn to take responsibility.

All of us come into adulthood with baggage from our childhood. Using that baggage as an excuse to do and say whatever we want isn't acceptable. Tough love says, "No, you will not get away with using your baggage to manipulate me."

If you are one to make excuses for your behavior, stop it. Some people may buy your BS, but some of us don't. Some of us know your type well...maybe we were once like you or maybe our lives have nearly been ruined by people like you. Either way, it's time to take responsibility for yourself. Get a hold of life, don't let life and circumstance control you anymore. TAKE CONTROL...Pray, give your life to God, and embrace a new start. Self-pity is self-centeredness at its worst, and leads to self-destruction. Don't allow it to take root and if it has, it's time to pluck it out NOW.

God loves you. Build on that and start loving yourself and others.

ARMING YOURSELF FOR THE LAST DAYS OF EARTH'S HISTORY

"Praise the Lord. Pass the Ammo." No, this isn't the way to arm oneself for the last days. In fact, guns and other forms of weapons are not what the follower of God needs to fight the real enemy forces of the last days. "Not by might, nor by power, but by the spirit says the Lord." (Zecharia 4:6) God wants to arm the Christian with His Spirit. Why is that so important?I contend that in the last days, there will be a massive movement of counterfeits. Satan, whom the Bible says can come to you as an angel of light, will seek to deceive the people of God. While people are looking for acts of might and power to prove God is in their midst, Satan will use counterfeits to deceive, if it were possible, even the very elect. God promises to protect His people, if they are obedient in the following ways.

Following are ways of arming yourself spiritually for what's coming upon the world as an overwhelming surprise:

Read and know the Bible. Just as Satan tempted Christ in the wilderness, so will Satan tempt us. Christ's defense every time was "IT IS WRITTEN." Jesus quoted Scripture to the devil who tried to tempt him to turn stone to bread and to throw himself from the mountain. The Bible is full of promises, testimonies, admonition and counsel on what to do and how to do it. When Satan comes around in your mind, or through others, quote Scripture.

Practice faith. It's too easy to go from day to day and lose sight of the promises of God. When Christ's second coming is delayed, it is tempting to believe the voices around you that say it's all a fairytale. Jesus never existed, blah, blah, blah. Practice faith. Again, read the Bible. Remind yourself of the truth and the verses where Jesus said He goes to prepare a place for you and that where He is you will be also.

Shut out the voices of the past. If you have come out of a lifestyle you're not proud of, and you no longer want to be what you once were, it's important to close all doors to past temptations. An alcohol shouldn't venture near a bar. If someone of your past tempts you, stay away from that person. Shut out the voices of the past by not listening to the same things you did before; watching the same programs that led your mind away, or whatever. You know what those areas of weaknesses are for you.

Become single-minded. Don't be divided between two opinions, lifestyles and beliefs. Become totally devoted to God and to what you know to be right. Being divided spiritually, the Bible says, is like a wave being tossed about in the ocean. Serve ONE master and let Him be God, through Christ.

Seek to have a ministry. Sharing your faith is part of the Gospel commission. No person is left out in this area. Pray that God reveal your gifts and talents that you may put them to use in a ministry for Him. Time is short and it's time to tell others about the soon return of Jesus. The time to be ready is NOW...there is no time to wait or put off the spiritual changes needed in your life.

Continue to overcome sin. Don't be discouraged if you're not perfect. Instead, look to Christ for your righteousness. Stay in a state of repentance, asking God to forgive you of your sins and to give you power to overcome in the areas you are yet weak. Don't give up on yourself and on others, no matter what they do, no matter how they fail. Be patient and longsuffering just as your Father in Heaven is with you.

A guide to spiritually guarding and arming oneself is also recorded in Ephesians 6.

"(Eph 6:11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph 6:12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Eph 6:13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Eph 6:14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (Eph 6:15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (Eph 6:16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Eph 6:17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Eph 6:18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints."

CAN GOD FORGIVE YOUR SINS?

In order to have God forgive your sins, two things have to exist. One, is an acknowledgement that you're a sinner who sins. Second, that you ask God to forgive you.

Sin, according to the Bible, is "the transgression of the law." It is also "anything not done of faith." David tells us in the Psalms that we are conceived in sin and are born sinners. In other words, sin is not only what you do (breaking the law), it is also what you are (conceived in sin).
If sin is inherent in us, how can we overcome? We're told in the Word, that only one man didn't sin, though He was born with human flesh. His name is Jesus. Though theologians argue day and night over the nature of Christ, the nature of man and the nature of sin, one thing is for sure, only Christ is labled Savior and Redeemer. Only Christ "can take away the sins of the world." How is this possible? It is possible because God says it is. It is pronounced to be so, that through the shedding of blood, there is remission of sins.

Many people live with a guilty conscience, while others seem to have no conscience at all. Only God knows the heart of man and can judge sinner from saint. I believe it's best to look at people as potential saints, rather than condemned sinners. Saints are sinners, too, except for one difference - they are redeemed and working at overcoming all inherent sinful tendencies through Christ living in the heart.

DO WE NEED TO THROW OUT THE LAW OF GOD?

An element of difficulty for people today can be aligning their lives with the Word of God. We're told the Law of God is the mirror that points out sin. Instead of looking in the mirror and seeing where our sins lie, many forms of religion today, even among Christianity, tell us not to bother looking in that mirror. After all, no one is perfect. This is true, no one is perfect, except Jesus, we're told in Scripture. Other forms of religions in the world today tell us there is no such thing as sin.

But just because the law points out our faults doesn't mean we throw away the law. In fact, the law is God's perfect character displayed in the ultimate fashion for His people. The problem is, there is no salvation in the law, but just because that's true, doesn't mean it's useless. Let's look at the law in a positive light:

* The law of God points to our desperate need for a Higher power in our lives
* The law pinpoints areas of life where we need improvement
* The law can also be seen as promises from God of what He wishes to do in our lives to perfect our character
* The law keeps us humble and ever aware of our weaknesses and sinfulness
* The law brings us to repentance over and over again

The greatest law of all is the law of love. The 10 Commandments were given within the ultimate law of God's love for man. Unfortunately, man has often times separated law from love, law from faith, law from God...but God NEVER separates them. You see, God is both just (the law) and merciful (grace). Jesus is both judge and mediator for man. This is why it's important to ask Christ into your heart. When God the Father, and Jesus, the Son judge man, they then see you have a mediator, Christ who bears all sin for you. This is no excuse for sin. Instead, it is a motivating factor not to crucify Christ afresh by continuing to live in sin.

The only way man can overcome sin is through a deep relationship with God through Christ. Throwing away the letter of the law is not the answer. The answer is throwing yourself at the mercy seat of Christ and accepting the love of God. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:16, 17

WHEN KINDNESS MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

I contend that there's absolutely no time when kindness doesn't make a difference. The word kindness even evokes a sweet, soft spirit and those who partake of it are always blessed. It's true though that at times we fail to live within the realm of kindness towards others because we're provoked or because of some other reason that may be our own fault. Does that mean we give up? Of course not. It means we try again.

Those of faith know that the battles of life are endless and that following Christ is not a one-time choice, but a choice that changes you for the long haul. You recognize that your inner self is changed by the love of God and as a result your intentions and motives change. You seek to do random acts of kindness for those around you, even those who despise you. You pray for them and ask God to bless them anyway. There is no animosity in your heart when you pray for others and seek to be kind.

Random acts of kindness can be silent testimonies that love resides in you, no matter how you're treated. Despite your own failures, your tears, and heartaches for being less than perfect and often misunderstood, you look to Christ as your righteousness and He gives you the strength you need to deal with yourself and with others. You never stop trying to be kind no matter what. It's not fake or put-on. It's the true motive of the heart when you've been in the presence of God through prayer and meditation. Sweet peace, love, joy and compassion flow from God to you and anyone who opens their hearts to the connection.

As you spend time with God, ask for your divine mission of the day. He may reply that he just wants you to share random acts of kindness with those around you today. And "Just" is hardly a fair word in the same sentence with random acts of kindness.

THE ELEMENTS OF TRUE CHANGE CAN ONLY HAPPEN WHEN LOVE IS INVOLVED

I'm here to say that a changed life is only as good as one's love relationship is with God. You see, anyone can change, but true transformation of character requires a little more than man's ability. You can't fake peace, love, gentleness, kindness, longsuffering and patience. Sure, there are a lot of people who don't believe in God who are "good" people, but that's not what this is about. I'm talking about the born again experience.

Many are raised in a church and believe they're "good." They believe in God and try to lead a "good" life. The Bible tells us, though, that "no man is good," and that our good deeds are like filthy rags.

People who are "good" often don't see their "need" for God. They don't like Scriptures that point out their unrighteousness and their need for God. They don't understand the nature of sin and as a result, hardly pray, read the Bible, or seek to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. What is lacking? To be born again.

Jesus told Nicodemus that he had to be born again. To be born again means acknowledging you're a sinner in need of a savior, and asking Christ into your heart and being born of the spirit. This flies directly against the very nature of man who feels himself self-sufficient, self-righteous and in need of nothing. It's that very nature that keeps man in a state of rebellion against God.

The born again experience can only happen by faith. As man is "justified," or made right with God through faith, the seed of God, the divine, is planted in his mind and heart. From there, that person seeks to do that which pleases God. He desires to keep the law not to be saved, but because he is saved. He seeks to build a strong, loving relationship with God. She seeks to submit to God's authority and seeks to align her will with God's will.

To be "born again" is a sacred declaration made in Heaven. It is like an official, legal unwritten document or pronouncement that this person is now choosing God as the Master, not self or some other being. From there comes sanctification or the continued process of growing in one's walk. Only God can declare one holy and sanctified...only with divine help is this process possible. In the end, all of man's efforts and good deeds fall short of the glory of God.

DO YOU NEED ANY OF THIS?

"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him." James 1:12

Endurance is a character trait that God appreciates and rewards. While the world looks on and mocks believers, God, through His Word, reminds us that he who endures temptation, and trying times, will be rewarded with the crown of life, and Heaven itself.

Endurance and patience go hand in hand. Obedience to God's Word and His promises help the believer increase in spiritual stength so that he may endure unto the end.

How does one build on the important qualities that God appreciates and expects from us? It all begins with a relationship with Christ.

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:1-5

To dissect the above verse, here is the process:

1. Justified by faith
2. Peace with God through Jesus
3. Access by faith to grace that helps us to stand
4. Rejoice in hope and in the glory of God
5. Glory in tribulations
6. Tribulations lead to perserverance
7. Perserverance leads to character
8. Character leads to hope
9. Hope is not disappointed because it gives us access to the Holy Spirit

It is the Holy Spirit that strengthens and brings comfort. If you are in need of any of the above characteristics, pray to God to give you the Holy Spirit. How can you know if the Holy Spirit resides in you?

AllAboutGod.com puts it well: "Fruit of the Spirit - Visible Growth in Jesus Christ'Fruit of the Spirit' is a biblical term that sums up the nine visible attributes of a true Christian life. Using the King James Version of Galatians 5:22-23, these attributes are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. We learn from scripture that these are not individual 'fruits' from which we pick and choose. Rather, the fruit of the Spirit is one ninefold "fruit" that characterizes all who truly walk in the Holy Spirit. Collectively, these are the fruits that all Christians should be producing in their new lives with Jesus Christ."

Do you need any of these?

love
joy
peace
patience
kindness
goodness
faithfulness
gentleness
self-control

If your answer is yes, it's time to ask God to give you the Holy Spirit.

IS GOD RELEVANT TODAY?

Anytime we bring up a subject, we look for the relevance it might have in our lives. Today I want to focus in on why God should be relevant to our lives.

I will start with faith assumptions. That is, I'm not here to prove that God exists. I assume you believe and I will therefore build on that assumption. God is relevant to our lives because:
He made us, and knows what's best for our lives. As God Creator, God took very specific measures to make us in His image and gave us a guidebook on how to best live our lives. God loves His creation and wants to be our friend, our Father, and our guide.

Times are hard and we need a Higher Power. As we look around us, things aren't easy. Even if they are at times, God is still there to lend us a measure of power, strength, courage, and faith when we need it most. When things don't go as planned and our hopes are dashed, it's nice to trust in a Higher Power and to believe that all things work together for good to them that love God.

We are sinners and need a Savior. This may be the hardest thing to accept, but we are born fallen and Jesus came and died for our sins. Why was this necessary? Because we were cut off from God, and a righteous sacrifice had to be made to reconcile us with a perfect, holy God. None of us could do this for ourselves because we were marred by sin. Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God was given in our place. Jesus is both our substitute and our example. He is both Savior (substitute) and Lord (example). As Savior He saves us from sin. As Lord, He becomes Master of our lives. Because He saved us and we love Him, we seek to obey Him and His Word.

We need to overcome our addictions, patterns of self-destruction and etc. Another reason God is relevant is because of our great need to overcome the things that so easily beset us. God is just a prayer away, waiting with open arms to welcome you back home into His care; to fill your mind, heart, and soul with peace and strength to overcome those things in your life that you wish to overcome. I don't know about you, but I LOVE peace and when I first asked Christ into my heart, that was the one thing I remember most about the experience. I was flooded with a great sense of peace.

The empty spot within needs filling. All of us have an empty spot that can't be filled by any other person, place or thing. It is the dwelling place of God in the heart of man. People try to fill the emptiness with alcohol, sex, drugs, entertainment, family, friends, food and etc., but these "temporary fixes" only make the hole bigger and wider. Our only fix is God. God wants to fill the void within.

I could go on and on as to why God should be relevant in our lives. From our great need for that Higher Power to the companionship and fellowship of friendship with God, He is relevant. Start today by walking in faith. Let God, the Creator, be the friend you begin with first thing in the morning to the one you talk to last before you fall asleep at night. The relevance will grow and grow until you can't see yourself living life any other way.

WHAT IS THERE TO HOPE FOR?

The Lord takes pleasure in those....who hope in His mercy. (Psalm 147:11)

Mercy is a beautiful thing, especially to the undeserving sinners that we are. We read in the Bible that God is a God of mercy. The psalmist says "his tender mercies are over all his works (Psalm 145:9)." Yes, all of creation is marked with mercy...though there seems to be enough chaos and disasters at times to try one's faith, the Word of God stands behind God being merciful.

God's mercy is "from everlasting to everlasting" (Psalm 103:17) in the same way that He is. We're told every morning new mercies are given (Lam. 3). God's mercy is constantly fresh and perfect and never fading with age. His mercy endures forever. The expression of God's mercy on His children is never compelled, but God continues to expresses it because he delights in his mercy (Micah 7:18).

Because God is merciful to us, we are called to be merciful and loving toward others, even if they don't deserve it. After all, we don't deserve God's mercy. We often choose to rebel against Him, yet God still grants us mercy. Do you realize that the manner by which you forgive others will determine your own judgment? “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. . . . Forgive, and you will be forgiven,” said Jesus (Luke 6:37). How we judge – with mercy or with a desire to punish – determines how we will be judged.

Mat 6:12,14,15 - 12 Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us... 14 “If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done.

Only a merciful person is able to forgive others, but I also contend that a person who knows and believes Scripture will also seek to forgive. That person understands that what you hold against others will be held against you, and you don't have to commit the same acts. It's the act of unforgiveness that is held against the unforgiving. If you're not merciful, neither will God be merciful to you.

Seek today to come to peace with acts of hatred, indifference, cruelty and the carelessness of others toward you. Only through the divine presence of God's Holy Spirit living within can one be merciful and forgiving. Ask Christ into your heart today and let Him transform you from the inside out. Watch how you are softened and how mercy will become a part of your character, too.

BETTER TO ERR ON THE SIDE OF COMPASSION

“Judge not, that ye be not judged.” Matthew 7:1 .

"The effort to earn salvation by one's own works inevitably leads men to pile up human exactions as a barrier against sin. For, seeing that they fail to keep the law, they will devise rules and regulations of their own to force themselves to obey. All this turns the mind away from God to self. His love dies out of the heart, and with it perishes love for his fellow men. A system of human invention, with its multitudinous exactions, will lead its advocates to judge all who come short of the prescribed human standard. The atmosphere of selfish and narrow criticism stifles the noble and generous emotions, and causes men to become self-centered judges and petty spies.

The Pharisees were of this class. They came forth from their religious services, not humbled with a sense of their own weakness, not grateful for the great privileges that God had given them. They came forth filled with spiritual pride, and their theme was, 'Myself, my feelings, my knowledge, my ways." Their own attainments became the standard by which they judged others. Putting on the robes of self-dignity, they mounted the judgment seat to criticize and condemn.

The people partook largely of the same spirit, intruding upon the province of conscience and judging one another in matters that lay between the soul and God. It was in reference to this spirit and practice that Jesus said, 'Judge not, that ye be not judged.' That is, do not set yourself up as a standard. Do not make your opinions, your views of duty, your interpretations of Scripture, a criterion for others and in your heart condemn them if they do not come up to your ideal. Do not criticize others, conjecturing as to their motives and passing judgment upon them.

'Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts.' 1 Corinthians 4:5. We cannot read the heart. Ourselves faulty, we are not qualified to sit in judgment upon others. Finite men can judge only from outward appearance. To Him alone who knows the secret springs of action, and who deals tenderly and compassionately, is it given to decide the case of every soul." Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, page 123-124.

This book Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing gives us wisdom in how to deal with our fellow man. Many justify condemning and judging others, and have lost complete humility in the process. Because others do not come up to their "ideal" or their interpretations of Scripture, and because others miss the mark of what they believe is "truth," these perpetrators become judges, ready to condemn and dish out punishments.

Why do people so easily succomb to such cruel attitudes and a spirit of demonic unkindness? I can only surmise that they have not truly gotten acquainted with the Master. God is love, and if a person doesn't resonate love, but is always angry, always dishing out accusations, quick to condemn and judge, you can bet they will not lead people to the foot of the cross.

The same author once said that it is better to err on the side of compassion than violence or judgment. Why then, do we not stop and pray before we jump to the wrong conclusions about others? Why do we allow a rigid, uncompassionate spirit to possess us. I believe the following quote tells us why.

"There are those who profess to serve God, while they rely upon their own efforts (formalism) to obey His law, to form a right character, and secure salvation. Their hearts are not moved by any deep sense of the love of Christ, but they seek to perform the duties of the Christian life as that which God requires of them in order to gain heaven. Such religion is worth nothing. When Christ dwells in the heart, the soul will be so filled with His love, with the joy of communion with Him, that it will cleave to Him; and in the contemplation of Him, self will be forgotten. Love to Christ will be the spring of action. Those who feel the constraining love of God, do not ask how little may be given to meet the requirements of God; they do not ask for the lowest standard, but aim at perfect conformity to the will of their Redeemer. With earnest desire they yield all and manifest an interest proportionate to the value of the object which they seek. A profession of Christ without this deep love is mere talk, dry formality, and heavy drudgery." Steps to Christ, p. 43-45.

WHEN RELIGION IS DANGEROUS

As someone who believes in God, it hurts me to admit that religion is the most dangerous institution in the world. Religion has been one of the main reasons for wars since the beginning of time. Intolerance and persecution have come at the hand of the religious, and so have violence, torture, imprisonment and death. Let's face it, religion is responsible for truly messing people up.

All of us have heard of death cults and groups and communities set up to be "apart" from the world. Through brain washing techniques, peer pressure, intimidation and mind-controlling methods, charismatic leaders have fooled thousands to give up their homes, family and money in exchange for Heaven on earth and other so-called privileges. Usually they are stripped of their identities, self-esteem and confidence. Those who survive and come out of such movements are usually scarred for life. Many give up on God and religion altogether. Those who don't, always live with the constant reminder of the herd mentality and their need to guard against legalism and groupthink.

Having established that religion is a dangerous institution, then why would anyone in their right minds be a part of any belief system revolving around God or church? The fact is, anything that is worthy of truth usually is surrounded with the adverserial power of falsehood and deception. The evil powers that be, along with men and women who are control freaks have often taken over the "church" or religion because it's an easy way to take advantage of people. Sincerity and loyalty are usually found among people of faith, as is gullibility.

God's movement and religion is one of love and peace. Any institution that is contrary to such a movement is probably dangerous. Any religion that sets itself up to be political in nature is lusting for control and power.

God's pure church is spiritual, and not political. God's pure movement seeks to bring comfort to those who are hurting, relief to those who are poor, healing to those who are sick, and hope to those who are hopeless.

Pure religion is defined in the book of James: "If any man among you seem to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions and keep himself unspotted from the world" (Jas. 1:26-27). "But whoso has this world's goods, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him" (1 John 3:17)? In other words, what difference does it make what one believes if his beliefs do not translate into love and helping others?

God's church is spiritual and is made up of all nationalities, cultures, denominations and people. This is the remnant church that will be undefiled from the dangers of "religion" and politics. For truly, this people will live by the words of Jesus when He said, "My kingdom IS NOT of this world."

HOW TO LOVE THE UNLOVABLE

Sometimes people think that love means spending time with someone you can't get along with, but the fact of the matter is, that sometimes love simply means ceasing to be at war with your neighbor.

As we have all encountered, there are those we run into at times in life that are nearly impossible to love. If love is not part of your core value system or religious conviction, then this post doesn't apply to you, but if you are of the Christian faith and seek to live as Christ lived, then love IS part of your value system.

I have determined to try to be kind and loving to everyone. It's my goal in life, however, there are times when certain ones get a burr up their wazoo and choose to have an issue with me. These types of people usually misunderstand me or twist my words and make me out to be someone I'm not. I can't control their perceptions, but I can control my behavior and words so as to not feed into their wrong concepts of me.

Part of loving your neighbor is being true to who you are called to be. As people see your own life's direction, your convictions put into action, they may or may not change their concepts of you. It doesn't matter. Love is about allowing others their own opinions of you, even if those opinions are wrong.

Think about God. You can ask ten people what they think about God's character and those opinions will range from "God is angry, vindictive and out for blood," to "God is love." Does God come down to argue with men and women about their opinions? Does He defend Himself? Nope. He simply laid out who He was through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus pretty much said that we have seen God as we beheld His Son, Jesus. He was the character of God manifested.
So, despite the misconceptions concerning God's character, God continues to demonstrate His love toward us by giving us blessings we don't deserve, answering our prayers, and day by day making us more and more into His image.

The greatest gift of God's merciful love was laying down His life for us through Christ. Until we truly grasp the meaning of this sacrifice, we will continue to misunderstand God and one another in the process. You see, until you can truly appreciate that God loves your neighbor or the person making your life miserable, you will be unable to love them. Once you see their worth in God's eyes, the unlovable become lovable.

If you want to learn to love, study the life of Christ. One of the best books on Christ's love and His character is Desire of Ages by E.G. White. I highly recommend it. The whole book is online. Bookmark it and read a chapter a day. I guarantee your life will be transformed, for as we behold, we become changed.

Feed My Sheep

"Feed my sheep." This was a term Jesus used three times when addressing Peter. He asked Peter, "Do you love me?" Peter answered that he did. Then Jesus said, "Then feed my sheep."

What does it mean to "feed the sheep?" I believe it means to serve others. The fact that Jesus said it three times emphasizes Christ's desire for us to have a passion for lost souls, as well as for followers of God.

How can we serve others? Since Jesus said it three times, my own thoughts are that we can feed the sheep or the flock in three different manners.

1. Feed the spirit. Of highest importance, is the service of feeding the spirit. God calls us to be ministers of the Gospel. The Gospel is one of redeeming love, forgiveness and a call for change. Feeding the spirit brings inspiration, encouragement and renewal to one's spirit and soul. It is a call to eternal life, and things of spiritual importance.

2. Feed the body. We are called to care for one another. When someone is having financial difficulty, we can feed the body by providing food and clothing to take care of their physical needs. We can also break bread together. Invite friends and family over for a meal. Hospitality is a gift from God and God longs for people to share with their friends, neighbors, and families.

3. Feed the mind. Emotional and intellectual needs must not be overlooked. Humans are multi-faceted individuals that need psychological encouragement, emotional support and intellectual stimulation. Many people feel empty and alone because they have no on with whom to share their thoughts and feelings. Become a friend and a good listener to others.

These are three ways I believe we can do as Christ commanded Peter to do, to "feed my sheep."

ONE VERY GOOD REASON WHY JESUS DID NOT DEFEND HIMSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN

The other day I was sitting around with some friends. One of the people in the group was someone who recently told us about a neighbor lady who was very unkind to him. She claims to be a minister but goes around and bad mouths people, including him to the neighbors. He is rather confused about the whole thing and doesn't understand how, out of nowhere, a total stranger can act so irrational. The first time he told us about this, I piped up and said the woman either had a psychological disorder or there were demonic spirits at work in her behavior.

Then recently, the subject came up again and this time I mentioned that if we look at the life of Christ, He never defended Himself against accusers. Why is this? I shared with my friends that I believe that this was because Jesus did not converse with demons. Satan is known as the "accuser of the brethren." If Satan is the accuser of the brethren, then people who go around accusing others, trying to provoke them to argument, debate and trouble, are probably under the control of the "accuser of the brethren" himself.

The only time Jesus gave an answer was when He thought He might get through to those questioning Him, or to make an important point to those watching on, but never did Jesus spend time defending Himself in the face of accusations. He usually went quiet. He did not converse with demonic presences.

Jesus did, on the other hand, cast out demons when appropriate. He didn't spend time asking the demons questions or conversing with the evil spirits like some people in deliverance ministries do today. No, Jesus commanded them out and that was it.

Think about your life and those who act irrational toward you and who try to provoke, accuse, and bear false witness against you...consider Jesus' behavior in such circumstances. Don't argue, debate or get into conversations with "the accuser of the brethren" in others. I truly believe people who spend their time cutting down God, Jesus, Christianity, the Bible, and each other may be under the control of "the accuser of the brethren." Those that are quick to label others names, judge, and draw false conclusions about their brothers and sisters may be under such a spirit as well.

Stay focused on loving others and letting them have their own opinions of you and what you believe, but don't try to defend yourself. Satan is cunning and coy. He can outsmart any of us...but he has no power over those who humbly submit to God; who stay faithful despite the opposition toward faith, and who continue to love and pray for those who make enemies out of them. God is love...resonate love, even in the face of accusations.

God is Love

Welcome to my new blog, entitled "Unconditional Love." Please bookmark this page and visit often. It's my prayer that you will be encouraged by the words you read, and come to understand that no matter what you do, God's love for you will never end. It's this sort of love that softens the heart and subdues the natural human bent of rebelliousness.

The Power of Love

God is love. This force of love cannot be contained in a building, denomination or among just one group of people. Love flows through all men, women and children and the key to the Kingdom of God is through that love. There is more miracle and power in love than in any other force. Everyone knows their "sins" and shortcomings, but not everyone experiences the true love, patience, compassion and understanding that flows from the character that is God, and God in you. Want to make a difference in someone's life? Show them real love.

"When a man's ways pleases the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." (Proverbs 16:7)

I'm here to tell you that love is not weak; kindness is not foolishness; forgiveness and turning the other cheek are not anything to be ashamed of. On the contrary, they show strength, restraint, wisdom, and something that can't be matched by the dark side of human nature.

The easiest thing to do is what's human -- get angry, fight back, call others names, and start a a war. Yet, in doing all those things, a person loses a valuable part of his soul -- his sense of peace. Going into physical or mental battle with others causes a person's body and mind to become distressed. Dis-ease sets in. The blood is poisoned by all those chemicals released that work against the nerves. Stress takes over and a person operates on adrenaline.

If you want to learn to subdue your enemies, and make them your friends, just begin to pile those hot coals of love over their heads. Most people can't resist that treatment. Some will, because they think that in being kind back to you they are "giving in" and losing the fight. In all reality, everyone comes out a winner when people stop fighting and learn to get along.

Even if you don't buy into Christianity, and the whole "love your enemies" philosophy, you have nothing to lose by implementing this behavior. Being diplomatic, and setting a higher example of human relations, are ways to increase your own peace of mind and your own physical and mental health. Go ahead, try it next time someone attacks you. See if love doesn't make a difference in others, but most of all, in you.
